New members welcomed to TIA Advisory Board

The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture plays a key role in developing and supporting the State's sustainable agriculture and food sectors and the Tasmanian Government welcomes three new members to its Advisory Board.

The Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture is a joint venture between the University of Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government and the TIA Advisory Board also includes representatives from the agriculture and food sector.

The new members Ms Angelique Korpershoek, Mr Peter Skillern and Ms Elizabeth Skirving all bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the board.

Angelique Korpershoek is the owner of Windermere Hill Farm Pty Ltd. She has a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and has been involved in the dairy industry for 17 years as a primary producer, service provider and industry representative on various committees. She is also currently Chair of DairyTas.

Peter Skillern was most recently CEO and Company Secretary of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association from 2015-2021.

Elizabeth Skirving has been CEO of Rural Business Tasmania since 2006. She has been a Board Director with the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia since 2015 (currently Deputy Chair), and a Board Director of the Tasmanian Small Business Council since 2014 (currently Treasurer).

We also thank outgoing Board members Dr Hazel MacTavish-West, Dr Davina Gregory-Dunsmuir and Ms Mel Rae for their service and contribution.

Advisory Board members provide an avenue for industry input and strengthening TIA's close industry relationships across the agriculture and food value chain.

The Tasmanian Government recently delivered a signed Deed to co-invest $5 million with the University of Tasmania towards a $7.4 million upgrade of the TIA's research farms at Elliott and Forthside.

This is in addition to $750,000 towards upgrades at the Government's Cressy Research Facility.

Over the past 20 years the TIA has delivered hundreds of successful research, development and extension projects with global relevance and direct impact for Tasmania's vibrant agriculture and food sectors.
