Lockdown Lab, a new social music platform from the City of Ballarat, has been launched to help young people create their own music throughout the lockdown period.
The project's mission is to break down technical, creative and pandemic barriers so users can use their time in isolation to collaborate and be creative.
Using the platform BandLab, creators will be able to write music and share the creative process with other musicians and fans.
Each Thursday for the next six weeks the City of Ballarat's Sonika BandLab stem will feature a new theme and will encourage participants to create a song together. After a week the song will be shared for anyone to listen.
The project will be facilitated by young talented musician Sarah Barclay who goes by the performance name of Floc. She is an artist inspired by hip-hop and RnB and has performed at variety events including last year's Spilt Milk Fringe Festival.
Sonika is the City of Ballarat Youth Services' FReeZA committee. It meets regularly to plan projects and events for young people throughout Ballarat. More details are available at https://www.facebook.com/freezasonika/
"Lockdown Lab is a magnificent initiative that I think will be very popular with musicians and young people throughout Ballarat," Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor, said.
"It follows the success of the Fully Sick Festival earlier this year. Young people don't want to follow online events passively, they want to be involved. Lockdown Lab will give them the opportunity to have fun and be creative."
