The new $165,000 play space at Devonshire Street Children's Centre was officially opened by Mayor Gail Giles-Gidney and Trent Zimmerman MP, Federal Member for North Sydney on Tuesday 2 March.

The Council-funded upgrade, completed in January 2021, features an in-ground trampoline, mud kitchen and new herb garden.

The opening event also featured a ceremony to raise Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian flags donated by the office of Trent Zimmerman MP in recognition of the centre's Reconciliation Action Plan.

Developed in late 2018, the plan saw staff developing their own knowledge and understanding to teach the children about the concept, culture and history of the traditional owners of the land through art, dreamtime stories and incursions.

As a token of thanks, the children presented Mayor Gail and Mr Zimmermann with fresh jam, made by the centre cook with berries from the centre garden, along with handmade thank you cards.
