New pump station approved for Portsmith

Council has approved a $1.4 million project for the construction of a new pump station in Buchan St, Portsmith and the upgrade of an existing sewage pump station at Rainy Mountain Park, Smithfield.

Both pump stations are more than 30 years old and have been identified for renewal to meet existing and future sewage loads in their respective catchments.

The Buchan St pump station will be relocated to a safer location across the street which will improve operator safety, ongoing costs and reliability of the asset. The project cost is $1.16 million.

The Rainy Mountain Park requires an upgrade to address the deterioration of structures, provide better capacity and flood immunity, as well as to improve safety concerns. The upgrade will cost $830,500.

Work on both projects is scheduled for completion in June 2021.
