These offences and protections will apply where police act reasonably and in accordance with authorised operational procedures. Decisions on initiating, continuing or terminating a pursuit will continue to be made by Victoria Police, taking into account public safety considerations.

Leader of the Opposition, Jess Wilson, said: "My Liberal and Nationals team has a plan to end Labor's crime crisis and keep Victorians safe.

"Under a government I lead, police will know the law is on their side and offenders will be held accountable for their actions.

"Dangerous pursuits place everyone at risk. Backing our police and ensuring there are consequences for serious crime are critical to restoring community safety."

Shadow Minister for Police and Corrections, Brad Battin, said: "This commitment is about backing our police and holding serious offenders to account.

"During pursuits police must make decisions in extremely challenging circumstances and should not be unfairly held liable for the choices they make.

"Only the Liberals and Nationals will give police the confidence to manage dangerous pursuits effectively and keep Victorians safe."
