The Premier has announced $1.5 million in funding today to continue a veterans’ memorial program and further funding to support veterans.
Following Remembrance Day and statewide Armistice Centenary commemorations, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk told Parliament $1.2 million would go towards the Queensland Veterans’ Memorial Grants Program and $300,000 for additional services for veterans under the Anzac Day Trust Fund.
"One hundred years on from the Armistice, our communities are still remembering the enormity of the sacrifice of the 57,705 Queenslanders who enlisted in WW1 and continue to pay tribute to them in their own special way," the Premier said.
"This new grants program is for communities wishing to honour their war heroes by constructing or restoring a public monument or memorial."
Between 2014 and 2018 more than 330 community projects and events were awarded over $6.85 million in funding under the Queensland Anzac Centenary Grants Program for things like memorials and honour boards.
"This encouragement and support will continue for a further three years through the Queensland Veterans’ Memorial Grants Program," the Premier said.
"There will be three grant rounds that will assist projects that promote the virtues demonstrated by veterans both at home and on the war front – namely, that formidable Anzac Spirit we all hold dear.
"I want to encourage veterans’ groups and other eligible community organisations to apply for grants up to $30 000 (exclusive GST) to create or conserve a lasting legacy for future generations."
Applications will open by the end of the month, with the first round to close on 10 March 2019.
