A new safety management system (SMS) resource booklet designed specifically for commercial drone or remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) operators, is now available.
An SMS is an organised approach to managing safety and includes formalised processes, roles, and responsibilities that help make sure risks are appropriately identified and managed.
This new RPAS specific booklet has been designed to provide guidance on key elements to consider when implementing or reviewing an SMS for RPAS operators, including:
- why you need an SMS and benefits for your organisation
- safety policies and objectives
- risk management and safety assurance
- safety promotion
- human factors integration.
While a range of SMS resources already exist for traditional aviation activities, this booklet is the latest addition to our SMS kit.
