World-class athletes need world-class mentors and with Brisbane 2032 fast approaching, Australian sport needs our Para-sport coaches now more than ever before.
As part of a series to showcase the impact and stories behind the Para Uplift, the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) is shining a light on the people inspiring, guiding and supporting our current and future Paralympians.
The Para Uplift is a national movement being led by the AIS in partnership with Paralympics Australia, sports and state and territory sport institutes and academies, to help make Brisbane 2032 Australia's most successful Games ever.
The five-episode series will drill down into the motivations of our Para-sport coaches, show how a home Games in 2000 revolutionised Para-sport and look forward to the thrill of a home Paralympics in Brisbane.
Episode 1: What's it really like to coach Para-athletes? It's not harder, just different.
Episode 2: Why we need Para-sport coaches, now more than ever. Coaches share why the lead-up to Brisbane 2032 is a game changer - and how new investment, energy and opportunity are reshaping the future of Para-sport.
Episode 3: Sydney 2000 changed everything for Para-sport coaching in Australia and our next home Paralympic Games - Brisbane 2032 - could take it even further.
Episode 4: Coaching in Para-sport isn't just about performance. It's about possibility, potential and people.
Episode 5: The legacy of the Para Uplift for our coaches and Para-sport in general.
Over the next few months, the Para Uplift series will showcase stories from our Para-athletes, coaches and performance support services, including the AIS Engineering team.
The Australian Government has invested an additional $54.9 million in Para-sport - doubling previous investment - to fund the Para Uplift, which is addressing better classification opportunities, access to fit-for-purpose training environments and specialised coaching and performance support.
The Para Uplift was born from the Win Well Strategy, high performance sport's united commitment to prioritise wellbeing to create a culture of sustainable success in the leadup to Brisbane and beyond.
