New software implementation to make Council more efficient

Townsville City Council has implemented new software that will improve efficiency.

Townsville Mayor Jenny Hill said the software allows Council's Planning, Environmental and Cultural Services Division to more easily and efficiently track infrastructure charges.

"This reform highlights Council's innovative approach – we are the first council in Queensland to utilise this kind of software with this high level of functionality," Cr Hill said.

"A major focus of the transformation of Council is to make our systems more efficient.

"A very manual process that took a couple of hours now takes 15 minutes and that is a significant cost saving for Council.

"A key point of the transformation is saving ratepayers' money and this is another example of Council finding new ways to reduce costs."

Planning and Development Committee Chair Deputy Mayor Les Walker said the efficiencies will benefit Council.

"The software's ability to manage developer infrastructure charges saves us a lot of time and we can also predict our future infrastructure needs more accurately," Cr Walker said.

"It makes it much simpler and quicker for our town planners to calculate infrastructure charges by automating time consuming processes.

"Depending on the level of development activity in a year, it could save Council hundreds of thousands of dollars."
