New Strategy Fuels Long-Term Vision for Women in Sport

Tasmanian Government

Tasmanian women and girls are the focus of a new strategy and grant program supporting their participation in sport and active recreation.

The She moves. She leads. She Belongs. Tasmanian Women and Girls Sport Strategy sets a clear vision for women and girls to have equal access and opportunities in sport and active recreation in a safe, inclusive and fun way.

Minister for Sport, Nick Duigan, said the strategy had extensive consultation with the Tasmanian sport and active recreation sector and community to reflect the views, experiences and aspirations of women and girls.

"We know women and girls face a range of barriers to participating and staying involved in sport and active recreation," Minister Duigan said.

"Fewer girls play sport than boys, and women are significantly under-represented in sport leadership roles across the country.

"The Tasmanian Government recognises the importance of delivering opportunities to boost women's participation in sport and active recreation.

"The Strategy has three priority areas which focus on creating more participation opportunities, supporting more women in leadership, and creating inclusive environments.

"Along with launching the Strategy, we are announcing Her Path to Play, a new grant program. It's designed to support projects that cater specifically for women and girls, and align with the Strategy's priorities."

An action plan will be developed to identify concrete deliverables in partnership with sporting organisations and service providers.

The Her Path to Play program will open on 10 February 2026 with a total funding pool of $400,000.
