New Sydney Children's Hospital Opens Emergency Dept

The Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick, is welcoming patients and their families to the new emergency department (ED), with an orientation video featuring renowned children's entertainers The Wiggles helping them find their way around the new building.

The new ED is now located on Botany Street and is designed around clinical pods to improve patient flow and a Short Stay Unit, which is purpose-built for patients who require fewer than 24 hours of care.

Tshehay, John, Dorothy the Dinosaur and the Tree of Wisdom from the Wiggles are showing children, parents and their carers how to find the new ED and what to expect when they arrive. The orientation video also displays the ward's single patient rooms which have been designed to enhance privacy and comfort, imaging suites and recreation areas.

The new patient drop-off zone and additional short-term and disability parking can be accessed from Botany Street.

The new 12-storey building, which includes an expanded ED, is part of the NSW Government's $658 million investment in Sydney Children's Hospital Stage One and Minderoo Children's Comprehensive Cancer Centre project. It is also part of a more than $1.5 billion investment in health infrastructure within the Randwick Health and Innovation Precinct.

It brings together leading clinicians, researchers and educators under one roof, with contemporary health facilities and spaces designed for families.
