New Tailings Facility Approved At Fosterville Gold Mine

Resources Victoria has approved the construction of a new tailings storage facility at the Fosterville Gold Mine, located 20 kilometres east of Bendigo.

Known as TSF5, the facility will be built within an existing tailings area to help address storage constraints and ensure the mine can continue operating safely and efficiently.

Fosterville is Victoria's largest gold mine and one of the highest-grade gold mines in the world. It's continued activity is a major contributor to regional jobs and economic growth in central Victoria.

In May 2025, the Fosterville Gold Mine Sustained Operations Project received an Environment Effects Statement (EES) assessment which found potential environmental impacts to be manageable with appropriate safeguards. The project requires additional tailings storage.
