The Australian Government has launched a free Employer Toolkit to help employers hire people with disability and build their organisation's disability confidence and competence.
The Toolkit is an online resource to guide employers through the entire process of employing people with disability. It uses simple, straightforward videos, downloadable resources and real-life case studies.
Created to highlight the benefits of employing people with disability, the Toolkit also raises awareness of the Australian Government supports available to assist large organisations, such as the Employment Assistance Fund (EAF). The EAF provides financial assistance for a range of work-related equipment, modifications, and services to change workplaces to accommodate employees with disability.
Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing and Disability Services, Sarah Henderson said the Toolkit will empower employers and ensure opportunities for Australians with disability.
"These resources are specifically designed to be user-friendly so time-poor, corporate professionals can quickly access and absorb the practical information to assist them navigate disability employment," Ms Henderson said.
The Employer Toolkit is divided into five sections:
- Disability employment basics
- Fundamentals for organisations
- Recruiting people with disability
- Getting your workplace ready
- Managing your team
A range of stories are also available, including insights into the Employment Assistance Fund in action from Australian Network on Disability member organisations, Commonwealth Bank, University of Southern Queensland, Microsoft Australia and PwC.
