New tram tracks being installed at Lake Wendouree

Work will begin next week to replace a section of Lake Wendouree's historic train tracks.

From Monday 2 September, approximately 300 metres of new track will be installed between Carlton Street and the junction leading to the Ballarat Tramway Museum.

The first two weeks of works will involve excavation, the removal of the old track and the preparation of the base for the new rail placement.

The new rail will be placed on a concrete base with precast concrete sleepers. An asphalt pavement will complete the works to tie in to the existing road.

Weather-permitting, the project will be completed in early October.

The City of Ballarat has partnered with the Ballarat Tramway Museum to replace the tracks, with the museum securing a $200,000 grant through the State Government's Pick My Project initiative.

Council has injected an additional $590,000 into the project, which is being undertaken by civil construction company Fulton Hogan.
