New Walkway Unveils Ben Lomonds Birds-Eye View

Work is about to start on a new accessible viewing platform and walkway that will offer spectacular birds-eye views from Ben Lomond across the surrounding valley.

Acting Minister for Parks Madeleine Ogilvie said the works were part of a four-year $2.8 million project to secure Ben Lomond as a year-round destination.

"A new state-of-the-art walkway, crow's nest surveying the Ford River Valley and viewing platform overlooking Jacob's Ladder will be built using fibre reinforced polymer and steel," Minister Ogilvie said.
"This is the second stage of our commitment to make Ben Lomond a year-round holiday destination, offering safe and accessible walks during summer and snow sports during winter.
"The new structure will take advantage of the stunning gorge views and northern panoramic vistas for which Ben Lomond is renowned.
"It will also capture the dramatic dolomite rock formations of Jacob's Ladder, arguably the most impressive and hair-raising alpine road in Tasmania.
"These upgrades build upon recently delivered improvements to visitor amenities, including a new day shelter and alpine village walkway.
"We are getting on with the job of improving access to Tasmania's natural attractions, with accessibility upgrades already delivered at Goblin Forest, the
Stanley Nut Reserve and Ferndene in recent months."
Weather permitting, the works will begin on April 13 and be completed by the end of this year.
During this time, the existing lookout and walkway will be closed to visitor access. All efforts will be made to minimise disruptions. Visitors are asked to comply with all signage and directions from contractors and PWS staff onsite.
