New workshops and mentoring service to support local businesses

The City of Greater Bendigo is inviting small businesses to take advantage of a series of upcoming workshops and seminars over the coming months, which includes the Small Business Bus tour.

The Victorian Government's Small Business Bus is coming to the Bendigo region from March 25 to March 28, 2019, visiting Kangaroo Flat, the city centre, Epsom and Heathcote respectively.

Delivered by experts from the Small Business Mentoring Service and supported by the City, the sessions will offer business operators and owners tailored advice on how to grow their businesses and provide clear goals. The mentoring service can also help people who wish to set up a new venture and are seeking advice.

Bookings are essential as places are limited for the face-to-face 40 minute sessions.

City Director Strategy and Growth Bernie O'Sullivan said small businesses were the largest employer group in the region with many employing less than five people so the Business Bus was a great opportunity to learn from the experts.

"The mentors look at the business objectively and can assist operators and owners to gain ideas covering marketing, finance, sales and recruitment," Mr O'Sullivan said.

"With over 7,800 businesses here, the City is strongly committed to supporting and assisting both new and established businesses in our region and to create a diverse and growing economy that generates jobs.

"I strongly encourage businesses to take advantage of the workshops planned over the coming months as they can help to identify a clear direction for your business in the future."

Other events coming up over the next three months:

  • Tax Essentials for Small Business: free events to help understand business structures and their different rules, tax rates and obligations
  • Digital Solutions program: designed for small business owners to learn about topics such as digital marketing, website creation, social media and online security
  • Exporting Your Business: Growing Fresh Horticultural Produce Export Opportunities
  • Exporting Your Business: Developing Wine Product Premiums in Export Markets Workshop
