Bass Coast Shire Council will soon begin important maintenance works on the Newhaven Jetty Structure at Newhaven Boat Ramp. These works will take place on the Newhaven Jetty structure at the Newhaven Boat Ramp off Seaview Street, not the Newhaven Jetty managed by Parks Victoria next to Saltwater Restaurant.
The works will help extend the life of the jetty and ensure the facility continues to safely support recreational boating and community use.
Construction is scheduled to begin Monday 23 February 2026 and is expected to take approximately two weeks, subject to weather conditions, contractor availability and material supply.
Funding and project delivery
The maintenance works are fully funded by Better Boating Victoria, with Bass Coast Shire Council managing and delivering the project on behalf of the Victorian Government.
Local contractor Bass Coast Civil and Excavations Pty Ltd has been appointed through Council's annual supply procurement arrangement to complete the works.
The total project value is $75,000.
What the works involve
The project will focus on replacing and repairing structural components of the jetty that have deteriorated over time.
Works will include:
- Replacement of deteriorated crossheads
- Removal and replacement of corroded bolts
- Rectification of deficient cross bracing connections
- Repair of upper-level waler splices
- Installation of one new timber pile
These repairs are essential to maintaining the structural integrity of the jetty and ensuring it remains safe for community use.
During the construction period:
- One lane of the boat ramp will be temporarily closed to allow works to take place safely
- Traffic and pedestrian management will be in place, including reduced speed limits and possible detours
- Emergency access will remain available at all times
- Construction activities may include the use of machinery and equipment that generate noise and vibration, such as demolition works, saw cutting and truck movements
Nearby residents, businesses and user groups will be notified where access or activity may impact them.
We appreciate that these works may cause some temporary inconvenience and thank the community for their patience while these essential improvements are completed.
