Next major land release for Macquarie Point - District

Michael Ferguson,Minister for State Growth

Interest is being sought from proponents for Macquarie Point's newest parcel of land 'The District', to deliver a world-class mixed-use precinct, as we continue seeing this waterfront urban renewal site come to life.

The Macquarie Point Development Corporation is calling for pre-registrations of interest for The District parcel, which is around 2.7 hectares. This provides a rare opportunity for a large scale developer or consortia to be part of a premiere development initiative, which includes three consolidated land parcels:

  • The Gateway,
  • The Promenade, and
  • The Underground.

Minister for State Growth Michael Ferguson said this land release comes off the back of the Premier's State of the State announcement that the Tasmanian Liberal Government will provide $6.6 million this year for the Corporation to continue advancing the site's development.

"This, along with around $71 million over the next three years, will bring this waterfront development to life much earlier than ever envisaged, supporting jobs and stimulating the economy," Mr Ferguson said.

"This certainty will get the next development stage to market sooner, over the next three years in fact, providing the foundation for around half a billion dollars of investment to take place, so that this fantastic waterfront precinct can come alive for all Tasmanians to enjoy."

Corporation CEO Mary Massina said: "The Gateway is situated at the entry to Macquarie Point, offering street prominence with the potential to include visitor accommodation, an arts and cultural space, function centre and retail."

"The Promenade offers a complimentary extension to The Escarpment, currently under negotiation, with the potential to include residential, visitor accommodation and commercial opportunities," Ms Massina said.

"And The Underground offers developers the opportunity to construct a centralised carpark to service The District and the whole of the site."

The Corporation has engaged PwC Australia to act as realtor to undertake the pre-registration of interest – part of a three-stage competitive bid process.

Developers and/or consortia are encouraged to complete and submit a pre-registration of interest form in order to receive a direct copy of the Corporation's upcoming Request for Expressions of Interest, due for release in the coming months. The pre-registration of interest process closes at 5pm, Friday April 16, 2021.
