Nine Charged After Two-Day Operation Soteria

Police have charged nine people with 18 offences and issued 56 infringement notices during a two-day operation in the state's north under Operation Soteria.

Operation Soteria is a strategic initiative focusing on aggravated break, enter and steal offences, stealing motor vehicles, and 'post and boast' offences where social media is used to gain notoriety.

The two-day operation ran between Wednesday 13 August 2025 and Thursday 14 August 2025, with a focus on Boggabilla and Moree.

During the operation, nine people were charged with a total of 18 offences. Officers from Traffic and Highway Patrol Command arrested another five people, who are expected to be issued with future court attendance notices.

Police undertook 262 random breath tests, 10 person searches, and 26 apprehended domestic violence order compliance checks, with 56 infringement notices issued.

Officers from the Youth Command conducted eight home engagements and visited four local schools in Moree, engaging with over 200 students.

Two incidents of note include:

  • About 8.35am on Wednesday 13 August 2025, police arrested a 21-year-old man on Merriwa Street, Boggabilla. Police will allege he was involved in an alleged break and enter in the Boggabilla area in February 2025 and a pursuit on Thursday 7 August 2025. He was also wanted on an outstanding warrant relating to domestic violence offences. He was taken to Boggabilla Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, never licensed person drive vehicle on road and an outstanding warrant with possess housebreaking implements, commit s114 offence, having previous conviction, aggravated break and enter dwelling etc in company steal less than or equal to $60000 and drive conveyance taken without consent of owner. He was refused bail and appeared at Bail Division Court 5 on Thursday 14 August 2025, where he was granted conditional bail to appear at Moree Local Court on Monday 18 August 2025.

  • About 12.50pm on Wednesday 13 August 2025, a 25-year-old man was arrested on Dingwall Place, Moree, in relation to an alleged domestic violence offence. He was taken to Moree Police Station where he was charged with contravene prohibition/restriction in AVO (Domestic). He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 5 on Thursday 14 August 2025, where he was refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court on Monday 18 August 2025.
