Nine officers honoured at the Royal Humane Society Bravery Awards, NSW

The actions of nine NSW police officers will be recognised at the Royal Humane Society Bravery Award ceremony today, NSW Police say.

The awards will be presented by the Governor of New South Wales, His Excellency, General The Honourable David Hurley, AC DSC (Ret’d), at Governor’s House at 3pm tomorrow.

The officers who will receive awards are:

• Sergeant Mark McCulkin

• Senior Constable James McMillan

• Constable Matthew Steele

• Senior Constable Brendan MacDonald

• Senior Constable Craig Smith

• Sergeant Melissa Clarke

• Sergeant Matthew Peet

• Constable Jarrod Wright

• Constable Sarah Foster

NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller, APM, said these officers exemplify the best of the NSW Police Force.

"These officers have gone to work simply to do their job and found themselves in situations where they have put their lives on the line to protect others.

"Their actions are selfless and courageous and illustrate the challenges officers face every day. They are worthy recipients of today’s praise and accolades."

Sergeant McCulkin and Senior Constable McMillan will receive bronze medals for their role in rescuing three people from carbon monoxide poisoning in a house at Portland on Thursday 7 August 2014.

Constable Steele will receive the silver medal for his actions in rescuing a woman attempting self harm at Watson’s Bay on Saturday 19 April 2014.

Senior Constable MacDonald and Senior Constable Smith will be awarded bronze medals for their respective roles in rescuing a woman at a Maitland Road service station in Sandgate on Sunday 12 July 2015.

Sergeant Clarke, Sergeant Peet, Constable Wright and Constable Foster will be awarded bronze medals after rescuing a man from a shed fire in Church Street, South Windsor on Saturday 27 December 2014.
