The Finocchiaro CLP Government is powering ahead with the Northern Territory's biggest year of motorsport yet, with Nitro Up North returning as a standalone event for the first time in six years.
Across two huge nights of high-octane drag racing, the Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars will unleash flame-throwing, nitro-fuelled power, while the Top Doorslammer will showcase the country's fastest full-bodied, V8-powered drag machines in the NDRC Season 2 Grand Final.
Minister for Major Events and Tourism and Hospitality Marie-Clare Boothby said Territory events like Nitro Up North play a key role in the CLP Government's recently launched Restoring the Territory Lifestyle Strategy here.
"Nitro Up North has long been a crowd favourite as part of the Darwin Supercars program, and we are thrilled to deliver this event for motorsport fans across the Territory and beyond," Ms Boothby said.
"During our year of action, certainty and security, we're proud to deliver major events that not only entertain, but also boost tourism, support local businesses, and showcase to the rest of Australia everything our great regions have to offer."
"There's plenty coming up on our motorsport calendar - so if you're heading to Nitro Up North, make sure you also lock in the Chariots of Thunder and MXGP this September and head to Alice Springs for Red CentreNATS."
The Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) Regional Sportsman Series will see local and regional racers, from street-style machines to drag bikes, battle it out for championship points in one of the most anticipated rounds of the season.
Beyond the racing, fans can expect impressive motocross stunts by the High Air FMX team featuring X-Games Quarter Pipe gold medallist Corey Creed, interactive experiences, pit access to get up close with the cars and drivers and a fireworks display on Saturday night.
Managing Director of Out There Group Andy Lopez, who manages the National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC), said he couldn't be more excited to bring this action-packed show to the Top End.
"The people of Darwin love their motorsport, and they're going to be treated to an incredible lineup, from the flame-throwing Aeroflow Outlaw Nitro Funny Cars to the Top Doorslammer Grand Final and hard-fought Sportsman racing," he said.
"It's a massive celebration of drag racing and Territory spirit, and we're proud to work with the NT Government, the team from Hidden Valley Drag Racing Association and LMCT+ to make it all happen."
The event is presented by LMCT+ and supported by the CLP Government through the NT Major Events Company Event Funding Program and runs from 29-30 August at Hidden Valley Dragway, with gates open from 3pm.
