The Conservative Party has welcomed news that Australia will no longer contribute to a United Nations fund dedicated to combating climate change.
The Hill reports, following Prime Minister Scott Morrison's remark that the country isn't "bound to go and tip money into that big climate fund," referring to the UN's Green Climate Fund, the government's budget noted that the country made its "final" contribution in December.
Australia contributed a total of $200 million to the fund between 2015 and 2018.
Mr Morrison said in an interview with radio station 2GB that he did not see the point in withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, arguing that the country was not obliged to follow its recommendations.
"Nor are we bound to go and tip money into that big climate fund; we're not going to do that either," he added, according to Climate Change News. "So I'm not going to spend money on global climate conferences and all that sort of nonsense."
He also later dismissed a recent UN report on climate change that was released not long after that interview took place.
"We don't get led around by the nose by these organizations," Mr Morrison said.
Conservative Party leader Cory Bernardi was recently interviewed by Adam Peacock on the podcast Peacock Politics, and explained why he is firmly of the belief that climate change alarmism is utter nonsense.
