No Plan, No Updates - Tasmanians Left In Dark On Fuel

Tas Labor

After being briefly awoken from their slumber last sitting week, the Liberals have been caught napping at the wheel again on fuel.

Since the Government rushed through legislation that was so urgent it couldn't wait until this week, we've barely heard a peep from the Premier or his Ministers.

There was one daily fuel update issued on 30 March, and there's been nothing since.

When asked, the Minister for Agriculture couldn't share any plan to respond if future fuel shipments are delayed, reduced or missed - effectively admitting that there is no plan.

While other governments across the nation are actively and effectively communicating with people, Tasmanians wanting updates have to hunt down their own deep on the RecFit website - a place you wouldn't find unless you knew what you were looking for.

Meanwhile, uncertainty is running rife as sky-high costs continue to bite into budgets during a cost of living crisis. One service station on King Island has run dry twice, and our critical agricultural sector still doesn't know whether diesel supply into Tasmania is guaranteed beyond May.

The fuel crisis is impacting people right across the globe. Tasmanians don't expect their Government to fix it, but they do expect timely and active communication and leadership - not to be left in the dark like they are now.
