No serious injuries following collision between a car and train in North Cairns

Police are at the scene of a crash involving a car and train in Cairns North this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

The incident occurred shortly before 4pm at the rail crossing located at the intersection of Collins Avenue and McLean Street.

Two people in the car- a woman and teenage girl- were trapped for a period of time due to the damage to the car. It is believed they are not seriously injured.

It is understood that none of the 43 passengers and crew on-board the train sustained any serious injuries.

Police investigations are continuing into the cause of the crash with  Collins Avenue currently closed.
