Police have arrested and charged three Nomads OMCG members after three people were allegedly assaulted and shots were fired at their clubhouse overnight, NSW Police say.
In the first incident, officers from Newcastle City Local Area Command have been told a member of the Finks OMCG was allegedly assaulted by a member of the Nomads OMCG at a gym in Kotara about 4.30pm Friday (24 March 2017).
The 26-year-old New Lambton man suffered a suspected fractured left arm when he was allegedly hit by a steel bar at the business in Bradford Close.
The alleged offender was not located at the scene.
In the second incident, about 7.15pm last night yesterday, a 40-year-old Sydney man was allegedly hit in the side of the neck by a Nomads OMCG member holding a glass at a hotel on Honeysuckle Drive at Newcastle.
That man suffered a deep laceration to his neck and fell to the ground, where his head was allegedly stomped on.
At the same time and location, a 42-year-old Sydney man was allegedly head-butted and punched by a man – who police believe is also a member of the Nomads OMCG.
The alleged Nomads OMCG members then left the hotel. The two injured men were treated at the scene before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
In the third incident, about 10.35pm last night yesterday, police had attended the Nomads’ clubhouse on Chinchen Road, Islington, following reports shots had been fired at the building.
Police attended and seized several spent shells outside the building; bullet holes have been found in the front gates, doors and guttering. The shells have been sent for forensic examination.
There were more than 10 people in the building at the time; however, there have been no reports of injuries.
At the clubhouse, police arrested three men, alleged to have been separately involved in the two assaults. They were taken to Newcastle Police Station.
A 26-year-old Branxton man, who is alleged to have been involved in the gym assault, was charged with affray, malicious damage, and use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence.
The other two men, aged 26 and 32, are alleged to have been involved in the Honeysuckle Drive hotel alleged assaults were also charged.
The younger man was charged with affray, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The older man was charged with reckless wounding, and affray.
All three men were refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court today.
No charges have been laid in regards to the report of shots fired.
Newcastle City Local Area Commander, Superintendent John Gralton, said the three incidents show that police will continue to target illegal criminal activity in the area.
"Members of OMCG who break the law; from assaults, gun crime, malicious damage or traffic offences, will face serious ramifications," Supt Gralton said.
"The three incidents over the weekend show that police from local area commands, as well as specialist commands, will continue to work together to stamp out illegal and dangerous activity.
"Anyone with information on suspicious or dangerous activity in the area is urged to contact police via Crime Stoppers.
