Narrandera Shire Council is pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the 2026 Australia Day Awards, which recognise and celebrate the exceptional contributions made by individuals and organisations within the Shire.
These annual awards provide an opportunity to formally acknowledge those whose efforts have enriched the community through leadership, compassion, service, environmental stewardship, advocacy, or achievement - whether through longstanding dedication or outstanding efforts over the past year.
Residents are encouraged to submit nominations across the following categories:
- Citizen of the Year for notable service to Narrandera Shire over an extended period. This may include acts of compassion, generosity, voluntary services, and bravery.
- Young Citizen of the Year open to those aged 16-24 during the preceding year for notable service to Narrandera Shire.
- Senior Citizen of the Year recognising notable service to Narrandera Shire over several years. A nomination for this category does not prevent consideration for the Citizen of the Year nomination.
- Organisation of the Year recognising service or achievement by an organisation (business group, club, or committee) to Narrandera Shire in the preceding year.
- Environmental Australia Day Award (individual or organisation) for outstanding service or achievement for environmental initiatives within Narrandera Shire.
- Disability Advocate of the Year (individual or organisation) recognising outstanding service or achievement for disability advocacy.
Multiple nominations are encouraged, and individuals or organisations may be nominated in more than one category if eligible. Past nominees may also be nominated again for the 2026 awards.
The awards will be presented during the Australia Day Ceremony on 26 January 2026.
All nominees will be contacted prior to the event. While a limited number of award recipients will be selected, every nominee will receive a certificate of recognition from Council.

Nomination forms and award guidelines are available at narrandera.nsw.gov.au or can be collected by Narrandera Shire Council front counter or the Narrandera Destination and Discovery Hub.
Completed nominations must be submitted by 1pm, 7 November 2025.
