Devonport City Council is calling for nominations for the 2026 Australia Day Awards, inviting the community to recognise and celebrate the outstanding individuals and groups who make a real difference in Devonport.
Mayor Alison Jarman said the awards provide an important opportunity to reflect on the generosity, dedication, and commitment of those who go above and beyond for their community.
"Australia Day Awards allow us to honour the people who give their time and energy to support others and enrich the lives of those around them," Mayor Jarman said.
"I encourage everyone to think about the people who inspire them - whether it's a neighbour, a volunteer, or a local leader - and put forward a nomination. These awards are a chance to shine a light on their contributions and give them the recognition they deserve."
Award Categories
• Citizen of the Year
• Young Citizen of the Year (nominees must be under 30 as of 26 January 2026)
• Community Event of the Year (events must have been held after 26 January 2025)
Mayor Jarman said celebrating community spirit is at the heart of the awards. "These awards aren't just about one moment of achievement - they're about the everyday dedication, kindness and leadership that strengthens Devonport as a whole."
She also highlighted the importance of community events in shaping the city's identity. "Events bring people together, create shared experiences, and showcase what makes Devonport unique. Recognising the Community Event of the Year is one way we celebrate the organisers and volunteers who make these special moments possible."
And for younger nominees, Mayor Jarman said the awards are an opportunity to showcase the next generation of leaders. "Our young people are the future of Devonport. The Young Citizen of the Year Award is about acknowledging their energy, passion, and the positive impact they are already having on our community."
Nominated individuals must live in the Devonport municipality.
