Noosa is now well positioned to play an important role in digital innovation and diversification with the opening of the Peregian Beach Digital Hub, a joint initiative of the Palaszczuk Government and the Noosa Shire Council.
Minister for Local Government Stirling Hinchliffe congratulated the Council on its initiative to deliver the facility.
"I applaud the work Noosa Shire Council has done to establish the Peregian Beach Digital Hub which will be a place to nurture ideas, to train and collaborate and above all, help take Noosa forward," Mr Hinchliffe said.
"Importantly, the Peregian Beach Digital Hub will house more than 20 technology businesses as well as providing co-working space for individuals and start-ups.
"So, the benefits of the facility won’t be limited to just this beautiful part of the world, the ideas to come from here may have the potential to impact the rest of Queensland, Australia and beyond.
"The Palaszczuk Government is proud to have been involved in delivering this project by contributing more than $1 million from the 2016-17 Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program."
Joining the Mr Hinchliffe at the opening, Noosa Shire Mayor Tony Wellington acknowledged the Queensland Government’s support.
"The State Government’s contribution was critical to the delivery of this facility," Mayor Wellington said.
"It goes to show what incredible things can be done when our two levels of Government collaborate for the benefit of the community.
"From today, around 40 people will be employed at the Peregian Beach Digital Hub and that is a terrific outcome for the local economy and for local families."
The Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program aims to assist local governments deliver key infrastructure projects that support economic growth, innovation and community development, while increasing job creation for local communities.
