One of Noosa's most significant and iconic cultural events – Floating Land – expands to Noosa National Park in 2019.
Noosa Regional Gallery Director Michael Brennan says the National Park's secluded coves, dramatic coastlines and meandering walking tracks "provide a real diversity of backdrops for the thought-provoking, temporary installations of Floating Land 2019."
"This popular natural attraction presents an opportunity for visitors to the area to encounter art as an 'incidental' experience," he says.
Floating Land's 2019 by-line, 'point to point', is an acknowledgement of the two anchor sites for this year's event, as well as a statement of provocation.
Boreen Point is the second anchor site with a significant Floating Land presence.
"The tranquillity of Boreen Point and its close-knit community has always lent itself to quiet and reflective works coupled with opportunities for artist and audiences to engage with one another in both organised and informal ways," Mr Brennan says.
"It asks artists and audiences to consider the way they move through a space and the fact that every journey leaves a mark," he says.
The Lake Cootharaba foreshore at Boreen Point will host multiple standalone installations alongside a curated trail of ephemeral works by multiple artists.
Floating Land will also feature affiliated presentations at other sites, which will be announced closer to the opening.
This includes the siting of work in proximity to Noosa Regional Gallery in Tewantin, which will host an exhibition prior to and during Floating Land.
This year, the event pays homage to local artist and Floating Land 2009 participant, the late Sue Coburn. Mr Brennan said Sue's work 'Sails' was selected as the official image for Floating Land 2019, as it epitomises the essence of the event.
