North Melbourne vehicle theft and deceptions

Police are investigating the theft of a vehicle in North Melbourne and subsequent deceptions in Kensington last month.

Investigators have been told a driver was making deliveries in Canning Street when an unknown person gained entry to his silver 2008 Toyota Hilux utility and drove off about 11am on 21 April.

The driver's wallet was in the vehicle at the time of the theft.

A short time later, the offender has entered a supermarket on Macauley Road in Kensington and used the victim's bank card to purchase cigarettes and mobile phone accessories.

The man is aged in his late 20s to early 30s, is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, with short dark shaved hair and facial stubble.

He was wearing a black hooded puffer jacket and distinctive white Nike runners with orange heels.

Police have released images of a man they believe can assist with their investigation.

Anyone who recognises the man or has information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppervic.com.au
