Nominations are open until 7 September 2025, with the awards night being hosted in Townsville at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre on Saturday 25 October 2025.

North Queensland Sports Foundation CEO Alex Fisher said he was excited to bring the awards back to Townsville for the first time since 2016.

"We're throwing out all the stops to make it our biggest awards yet. We want to know about all of our local sporting legends and trailblazers across all categories, and celebrate their efforts," Mr Fisher said.

"This year for the first time, we've created a dedicated category called the Sports Impact Award to capture and celebrate the officials, volunteers and sports administrators that define our communities across North Queensland.

"The original winner of our Senior Category in 1991 was Triathlete Brad Beven – one of three former winners now inducted into the North Queensland Sports Hall of Fame, along with Karrie Webb and Ashleigh Stebbeings.

"We've also had a rich history of identifying athletes early via our Junior Category, including current Brisbane Bronco Corey Jensen taking out the award in 2008 for his contributions in athletics.

"Our North Queensland based awards act as the pathway to the State Awards, where we send on our finalists across the categories to be considered for the QSport Awards in Brisbane this November."

Townsville Acting Mayor Ann-Maree Greaney said the awards were the longest-running and most widely recognised sporting awards in regional Queensland.

"The North Queensland Sportstar Awards are a brilliant opportunity to shine a light on the sports players and organisers who make our community proud. These awards recognise excellence in all sporting achievements by North Queensland athletes, along with the commitment of our sport volunteers and organisers," Cr Greaney said.

"During the awards' 35 years there have been 3,500 nominees and more than 200 winners presented, reflecting the remarkable sporting talent we have here in North Queensland.

"If you know someone who fits the bill for one of these awards, jump online now and fill out a nomination form and help us celebrate North Queensland's sporting excellence."
