North West Maternity Services Transfer Deadline Approaches

Tas Labor

The Rockliff Government should provide an update on the transition of the North West Maternity Service back to the Tasmanian Health Service (THS), which it committed to doing by December 4.

Expectant mothers and families deserve to know what model of care will be delivered in the North West and how staff recruitment and transfer to the THS has progressed.

Maternity services on the North-West Coast should never have got to the point where expectant mums were asked to bypass the hospital and the service was deemed unsafe by the Australian Medical Association.

Minister Guy Barnett has committed to a focus on workforce culture and retention, including offering career pathways and there are still independent review recommendations to be implemented.

The Legislation has gone through Parliament, and the deadline for the transition is looming. Will the Government uphold its commitment?
