The Tasmanian Government has today released the Northern Tasmania Economic Summit Summary Report.
About 100 representives from industry, business, education and government came together at the Summit to identify the priorities that will shape the region's long-term economic future and to feed into the Government's plan for the region.
The Summit focussed on four Pillars: Jobs and Community Resilience; Innovation and Business Attraction; Visitor Economy; and Industry and Economy.
The Summary Report outlines the key themes that emerged - Northern Tasmania has significant advantages, including affordable renewable energy and potential access to further renewable generation, productive agricultural land, water security, strong research and education capability, an attractive lifestyle, diverse industries and strong community identity.
Participants expressed their belief that these assets provide a strong foundation for future growth, but that the region is not yet fully realising its potential.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff thanked all those who participated in the Summit.
"While acknowledging the welcome diversity of viewpoints represented at the Summit, there was a high degree of alignment regarding the region's future direction,"
Premier Rockliff said.
"Together, we can make Northern Tasmania even more ambitious, more coordinated and more confident in promoting its advantages, driving economic growth and attracting investment.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future, we are reforming planning and cutting red tape – two important themes from the Summit."
The Summary Report is helping inform the Government's Northern Tasmania Economic Plan.
"We are working with a number of stakeholders on the final Economic Plan, which will be released in coming weeks," Premier Rockliff said.
