NPWS continues hazard reduction burns across South Coast

NPWS South Branch Director Kane Weeks said multiple burns are planned for this area within the next fortnight to take advantage of favourable conditions.

"These essential burns are in areas were not directly impacted by the black summer bushfires and aim to reduce the bushfire risk to the parks, neighbours and the community" Mr Weeks said.

Burns this week are:

  • A 88-hectare burn is planned for Nadigoomar National Park, just north of Braidwood today, Thursday 29 April.
  • A 29-hectare burn is planned at Mystery Bay, within Eurobodalla National Park Friday 30 April.
  • A 331-hectare hazard reduction burn at Brogo Dam in Wadbilliga National Park on Saturday 1 May.

During these burns some tracks, trails and sections of the national park will be closed so people should check NPWS Alerts for up to date information before visiting.

All 3 burns have been comprehensively planned and are in strategic locations, designed to limit the potential spread of wildfire to surrounding private properties.

NPWS firefighters will undertake these operations with assistance from local RFS crews.

Further hazard reduction burns planning for the week of Monday 3 May 2021 will be at Mimosa Rocks National Park north of the Bega River.

Smoke may be visible to nearby communities and motorists are reminded to drive to conditions.

People with asthma or who are susceptible to respiratory conditions are advised to keep clear of the area or stay indoors.
