NSW man charged following investigation into possession of prohibited weapons

Police have issued a 26-year-old man with a Future Court Attendance Notice following an investigation where a number of prohibited weapons and an explosive substance were found at a North Strathfield unit in March last year, NSW Police say.

It will be alleged that on March 19 2015, police from the Burwood Local Area Command and the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit were called to the unit in George Street, North Strathfield, where they located a number of prohibited weapons and what appeared to be an explosive substance.

As a result of ongoing inquiries the 26-year-old man, a serving member of the Australian Navy, was served with the notice this morning for four offences of unauthorised possession of prohibited weapon (side handled batons and a pair of handcuffs) and one offence of possess explosive for unlawful purpose.

The man is due to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on July 13 2016.
