The Minns Labor Government is investing over $35,000 to boost economic opportunities for women-owned businesses, with a first-of-its-kind partnership that helps them access corporate and government procurement opportunities.
Fifty businesses across New South Wales have been selected to participate in the new NSW Government funded pilot with WEConnect International, a global network that connects women-owned businesses to buyers around the world.
The initiative will provide a 3-year certification to each business, helping women-owned enterprises across New South Wales build credibility, increase visibility with procurement leaders and compete for contracts in government and corporate supply chains.
WEConnect certification is internationally recognised to indicate a supplier's credibility and is used by buyer organisations to tap into a pool of women-owned businesses.
Business leaders came together in Sydney today for the first Information and Buyer Engagement Session from WEConnect International to learn about the certification process and what buyers look for.
The 50 selected businesses reflect the diversity, innovation and capability of women-owned enterprises across New South Wales.
They include women-owned businesses in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) spaces, those located in regional, rural, remote or cross-border areas of NSW, and businesses operating in traditionally male-dominated industries such as construction and infrastructure.
It supports the Minns Labor Government's continuing work to increase opportunities for women and strengthen pathways for women-owned businesses to participate in procurement and supply chains.
This is part of the wider effort to boost women's participation and advancement that includes Supporting Women in Business grants, Investing in Women grants and the Women-Owned Enterprises Australia Supplier Network.
