The 2019 snow season will be the best yet for skiers, snowboarders and snow enthusiasts with major renovations and upgrades at multiple ski resorts now complete thanks to the NSW Government.
Deputy Premier and Member for Monaro John Barilaro said the NSW Government had managed more than 130 development applications in the Alpine region in the last few years to help create a safe and exciting winter wonderland.
"Projects include alterations and additions to lodges, ski infrastructure, additional snowmaking facilities and upgrades to eateries both on the slopes and within local villages," Mr Barilaro said.
"Visitors can now enjoy a new $4.2 million Leichhardt Quad Chairlift at Perisher that increases lifting capacity and enables easier access to terrain for children and beginners, and we've just given the tick of approval for a $10.7 million Merritts Gondola development in Thredbo.
"The NSW snowfields continue to be Australia's premier winter wonderland with more than $50 million of potential developments still in the pipeline," he said.
Minister for Regional Transport and Roads Paul Toole said the NSW Government has also invested in safety and reminded it was crucial people heading to the snow were prepared for the roads.
"We know it's a busy time of year, and there's been a great start to the season, but people need to remember to plan ahead and allow additional travel time," Mr Toole said.
"We're also urging motorists to carry snow chains and to learn how and when to use them. Every year we see cars sliding off the road and motorists getting stranded because they haven't fitted snow chains.
"The message is simple; take chains not chances."
During the snow season a dedicated team will operate chain bays, help manage snow clearing operations, respond to crashes and provide weather condition reports.
