NSW Independent schools welcome Minister Tehan

The Association of Independent Schools of New South Wales (AISNSW) congratulated the new Minister for Education, the Hon Dan Tehan MP, on his appointment following yesterday’s announcement by Prime Minister Morrison.

Dr Geoff Newcombe AM, Chief Executive of AISNSW, said: “I look forward to working with Minister Tehan on important issues for independent schools, including the proposed new funding model for non-government schools.

“While good progress has been made in discussions to date about the future schools funding model, more work is needed to achieve an outcome where all non-government schools are funded fairly and consistently.”

Dr Newcombe also acknowledged the contribution to education made by the former Minister for Education, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham.

“Senator Birmingham has shown great determination and integrity in trying to put in place a fair funding model that applies consistently to all non-government schools.

“Despite extreme pressure and unjustified criticism from some quarters, Senator Birmingham maintained a calm and principled approach throughout. We wish him well in his new portfolio as the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment.”
