NSW latest contract awarded for $250 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment

A major part of the $250 million Griffith Base Hospital redevelopment has taken a significant step forward, with the principal contractor appointed for the new Clinical Services Building.

Minister for Regional Health Bronnie Taylor was in Griffith today to mark the milestone and said ADCO Constructions has been awarded the contract to start work in the coming months.

“Today marks an exciting milestone on this project, which will be a huge boost to the community, ensuring Griffith and the surrounding region has the healthcare services it needs and deserves,” Mrs Taylor said.

“The new Clinical Services Building will include an emergency department, more aged care and rehabilitation beds, as well as maternity and paediatric services.”

The new Clinical Services Building will also include:

  • New operating theatres
  • Surgical, and medical inpatient units, including a mental health short stay unit
  • Medical imaging
  • Outpatient care to include expanded renal and oncology services and more specialist clinics.

Mrs Taylor said substantial early and enabling works have been completed over the past two years to ensure health services will continue without interruption during construction of the new Clinical Services Building.

“This project will also support hundreds of direct and indirect jobs in the region during construction,” Mrs Taylor said.

“Construction of the new hospital is set to be completed in 2025 before the services are transferred over and the new facility is operational.

“This will be followed by final works including demolition of old hospital buildings, landscaping and car parking.”

ADCO NSW State Manager John Basilisco said ADCO has extensive experience in delivering health projects and working in regional areas across NSW.

“We are extremely pleased to have been selected as the builder to deliver the Clinical Services Building, and are committed to engaging with the local community and businesses during the planning and delivery phases of construction,” Mr Basilisco said.

“The workforce will number in the hundreds, no doubt giving local employment a boost.”

Along with Griffith, the NSW Government has invested in major health infrastructure projects in the Murrumbidgee Local Health District, including the:

  • $431 million redevelopment of Wagga Wagga Base Hospital;
  • $30 million multi-storey car park at the Wagga Wagga hospital site;
  • $50 million Tumut Hospital redevelopment; and
  • New Tumut Ambulance Station, as part of the $232 million Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration program

The NSW Government has committed a record $10.8 billion investment towards building and upgrading the State’s health infrastructure over the four years to 2024-25, including recent announcements of an $80 million investment in Temora Hospital and $25 million investment in Finley Hospital.
