NSW man charged, 7.3kg of cannabis and knives seized near Kempsey

Police have charged a man with alleged speeding, drug and weapon offences after his vehicle was stopped twice on the state’s Mid North Coast early this morning, NSW Police say.

About 12.20am today, officers from Mid North Coast Local Area Command detected a Corolla sedan on the Pacific Highway, Cooperabung, allegedly travelling at 105km/h in an 80km/h roadwork zone.

Police stopped the 47-year-old driver and he was issued with an infringement notice.

A short time later, the vehicle was located at the Cooks Lane rest area at Clybucca, where the 47-year-old man was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

Officers searched the car and allegedly located and seized 7.3kg of cannabis, cannabis seeds and four knives. The drugs have an estimated potential street value of $50,000.

The man was taken to Kempsey Police Station and charged with possess prohibited drug (x2), supply a prohibited drug and custody of knife in public place.

He was bail refused to face Port Macquarie Local Court tomorrow.
