NSW man charged following aggravated robbery

Police have charged a man after he allegedly assaulted and robbed an elderly man of his vehicle in Condell Park today, NSW Police say.

About 1.30pm today, an 86-year-old man was getting into his vehicle on Marion Street when a 42-year-old man allegedly stole the keys from him and attempted to jump in the driver’s seat.

The older man was pushed to the ground as the younger man drove his vehicle from the scene.

The matter was reported to officers at Bankstown Local Area Command and about 3.15pm today a NSW Police Dog Squad officer saw the stolen vehicle travelling north on Johnstone Road, Bass Hill.

The vehicle was pulled over without incident and the 42-year-old driver was arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

During the charging phase police will allege the man became aggressive towards one of the officers pushing him in the chest.

The man was charged with aggravated robbery causing actual bodily harm, drive while disqualified, drive while disqualified, have possession of cutting weapon upon apprehension and assault police.

He was refused bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court tomorrow.
