NSW man charged following home invasion, armed with chainsaw

A man has been charged following an alleged home invasion whilst armed with a chainsaw in Port Macquarie last night, NSW Police say.

About 6pm yesterday, emergency services were called to a home on Bangoran Place, following reports of a home invasion.

At the home, a 28-year-old woman was treated for a large laceration to her arm and a 49-year-old woman was treated for a laceration to her hand and swelling to her face.

Both were taken by ambulance paramedics to Port Macquarie Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A crime scene was established by officers from Port Macquarie Local Area Command and investigations commenced.

Police will allege a man known to the women forced entry to the home armed with a chainsaw before an altercation took place.

During the altercation the man allegedly attacked both women with the chainsaw causing the injuries, before fleeing.

A 5-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl were home at the time of the incident. They were not injured.

A short time later, following investigations, a 30-year-old man attended Port Macquarie Police Station where he was arrested.

He was later charged with special aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, break and enter and commit grievous bodily harm, reckless wounding (x2), and breach apprehended violence order.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today.
