NSW man charged over firearm possession

A man will appear in court today after being charged with possessing a firearm in a shopping centre at St Marys, NSW Police say.

About 2.30pm on Tuesday 5 July 2016, three men entered a phone shop in a shopping centre on Charles Hackett Drive with their faces covered.

Police were contacted about the men and officers from St Marys Local Area Command attended a short time later.

Officers spoke to a 21-year-old man and his two 19-year-old friends.

During a search of the 21-year-old police will allege that they located a replica pistol secreted in the man’s pants.

All the men were arrested and taken to Penrith Police Station.

The 21-year-old man was later charged with possess unauthorised firearm and refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court today tomorrow.

Inquiries into the incident continue with the two other men released without charge at this time.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
