NSW man remains in serious condition, drugs seized

Police are waiting to speak with a man who remains in The Tweed Hospital in an induced coma, NSW Police say.

Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command believe the 50-year-old man arrived on a flight from Tokyo last Thursday (2 July 2016), but became unwell and was taken to the hospital yesterday afternoon yesterday.

The man underwent surgery; however, he remains in a serious condition.

Police allege that more than 100g of a prohibited drug, suspected to be cocaine, was recovered during the procedure.

Investigators hope to speak with the man once he is deemed well enough.

Police are liaising with the Japanese Consulate.

Inquiries are continuing.
