The NSW Mineworkers' Alliance (NSWMWA) is shocked to hear of the underground explosion this morning in Cobar which has led to the death of two mine workers, a man and a woman.
The NSWMWA sends its sincere condolences to their friends and family and to their colleagues onsite who are understandably traumatised.
A third mine worker has been airlifted to hospital.
NSWMWA officials will be on site to offer support to workers and thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this tragedy at the Endeavor Silver, Zinc and Lead mine.
The NSWMWA calls on the Mine Operator and the Regulator to undertake an open and transparent investigation which includes appropriate access and active involvement in the investigation process by NSWMWA representatives.
NSW Mineworkers' Alliance spokesperson Tony Callinan says workers on site are shocked.
"The NSW Mineworkers' Alliance is in shock this morning with news of these fatalities," he said.
"We will leave no stone unturned in identifying what has occurred here.
"This is a tragic reminder that underground mining is a dangerous job.
"Events like these send shockwaves through our entire mining industry.
"This is a reminder why the union always emphasises safety over production."
