NSW police appeal to locate getaway car from public place shooting

Police are appealing to locate a vehicle as investigations continue into a shooting which left a man seriously injured in Sydney’s south-west three months ago.

About 10.20pm on Thursday 28 July 2016, police from Fairfield Local Area Command were called Nugent Place, Prairiewood, after an unknown man approached a 24-year-old man from behind, shot him in the back and ran from the scene, NSW Police say.

The 24-year-old man was treated by Ambulance Paramedics before being taken hospital, where he underwent surgery.

He suffered serious spinal injuries and remains in hospital undergoing rehabilitation.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad and Fairfield Local Area Command are investigating the shooting under Strike Force Barcom.

As their investigations continue, strike force detectives have identified the unknown man ran into O’Meally Street, and got into the passenger-side of a dark-coloured late-model Toyota Corolla hatch and was driven from the area.

Investigators are appealing to the community for information to locate the Corolla.

In particular, they’re interested in speaking with anyone who may have noticed the vehicle or the occupants in the area around the time of the shooting.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
