NSW police are responding to fatal crash at Grafton

A woman has died after a head-on crash in the state's Northern Rivers region today.

Just before 11am (Tuesday 5 March 2019), emergency services were called Summerland Way, Junction Hill, about 5km north of Grafton, after reports a black Peugeot and a white Mazda crashed head-on.

The female driver of the Mazda died at the scene. She has not yet been formally identified; however, she's believed to be 79-years-old.

The 18-year-old female driver of the Peugeot was taken to Grafton Hospital for treatment for minor injuries and is assisting police with inquiries.

Officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District and the Crash Investigation Unit are at the scene and investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area as Summerland Way is expected to remain closed in both directions for a number of hours with diversions are in place.
