About 2.30pm today, three 19-year-old bushwalkers set off for a 10km walk in the Marramarra National Park on the Hawkesbury River.

The weather at the time was extremely hot with temperatures exceeding 43 degrees Celsius.

The group, carrying heavy backpacks, consisted of one man and two women; began to run out of water soon into their walk and contacted emergency services for assistance.

About 6.15pm, the three were located by rescuers and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for mild heat exposure and dehydration.

Deputy State Emergency Operations Controller, Acting Assistant Commissioner Kyle Stewart of the Major Events and Incidents Group (MEIG) said with heatwave conditions across the state this weekend, people should not put themselves at risk by undertaking outdoor activities in such extreme conditions.

"While the incident today had a good outcome, it could have had a very different ending"

"Their actions today not only put themselves at risk, but also the first-responders as well.

"Tomorrow the state is going to experience catastrophic fire conditions. The simple message is stay out of the National Parks and State Forests and make sure you avoid any outdoor activities that will put you at risk" said Acting Assistant Commissioner Stewart.
