NSW police officer struck by car

A police officer has been taken to hospital today after being hit by a car in Port Stephens, NSW Police say.

Just before midday today (Friday 5 January 2018) an officer from Port Stephens Local Area Command stopped an orange Holden Commodore for the purposes of a random breath test on Nelson Bay Road at Anna Bay.

As the officer approached the Holden, a white Renault van and a white Toyota Hilux collided in the adjacent lane. As a result, the van swerved to the left and struck the officer, leaving him pinned between the Holden and the Renault.

The 40-year-old Senior Constable was taken to John Hunter Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The 59-year-old male driver of the white Renault van was treated for minor grazes and abrasions by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene.

Newcastle Crash Investigation Unit have commenced inquiries into the incident.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
