NSW police probe assault and robbery

Police are investigating the assault and robbery of a man in Surry Hills overnight, NSW Police say.

Just after midnight today, a 46-year-old man was walking along Oxford Street when he was approached by four males at the corner of Riley Street.

The man told police the group made a number of homophobic remarks before forcibly removing a bag from him and throwing it on to the street.

He was then pushed against a window and had a card holder containing cash and other items removed from his pocket.

The four males then walked from the scene. The 46-year-old man was not injured.

Police are investigating all circumstances surrounding the incident, including possible motivation of homophobic bias by the offenders.

They are also seeking to identify the four males who are described as being of Caucasian appearance.

The first male was aged 17-18 years old, short in stature with a slim build, clean shaven with blond hair and a fair complexion. He was wearing dark shorts, a T-shirt and trainers.

The second male is believed to be about 20 years old with a stocky build and short blond hair.

The third male was tall with a slim build, well-groomed and wearing a collared denim shirt and dress pants; and the fourth male was described as having mousey brown hair.

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stopers.
